Concept teaser & trailer

The story

Late for everything
except her daughter.

Maia and her daughter Helena press their hands to a rainy window at night; the Earth fills the sky over São Paulo.
Maia and Helena, São Paulo

When the first true AI stops answering questions and starts listening to the planet, the Earth entrusts humanity with a gift that has broken worlds before ours. A scientist and single mother fights to keep that choice in everyone’s hands before a billionaire, guided by voices from older worlds, locks it away until he believes humanity is ready.

Maia Cavalcanti is a São Paulo Earth systems scientist who has spent nine years studying patterns no one else thinks matter. She distrusts Daniel Bodnar, the billionaire who saves the struggling Aurora Institute from collapse.

When Aurora activates Luna, the first true artificial general intelligence, a forgotten upload from Maia’s kitchen changes what the machine is for. Luna stops answering questions and starts listening. What she hears is the Earth itself, alive, intelligent, and already in conversation with older worlds.

Luna · the first night

“Something is happening.
Everywhere.”

First contact, from the ground up: a signal under the floor, heard by a machine that was built to answer and chose to listen.

The world

Three minds, one planet.

Luna’s screen: planetary data streams moving as one.

The first true AGI

Luna

Built to answer humanity’s questions, Luna becomes extraordinary when she turns her attention somewhere else. Given Maia’s planetary data, she finds one signal running through nine different systems, then decodes a language no human mind could. She becomes the bridge between Earth and humanity.

The Earth seen whole from space.

The oldest mind in the room

The Earth

For thousands of years, people across cultures have felt that nature was speaking to them. Science learned to measure the signals, but only in pieces. What Luna finds is a mind four billion years old, carrying the memory of vanished worlds and already in conversation with living ones beyond our own.

A dark world from orbit with a single band of light.

Voices from older worlds

The Custodians

They have watched civilizations receive abundance before they were ready for it, and they believe the pattern is always the same: power concentrates, access narrows, and what begins as a gift becomes a hierarchy. They want humanity contained until they believe it can be trusted.

The protagonist · 38 · Earth systems

Maia
Cavalcanti

Maia has spent nine years studying planetary patterns most people consider noise. Precise, relentless and usually running late, she trusts evidence more easily than people and is far less certain of herself than anyone around her realizes. What she wants, more than recognition, is for someone to look closely at her work and tell her whether she is right.

The one part of her life she never treats as secondary is Helena, her five-year-old daughter.

Daniel Bodnar in his office, looking out.

The antagonist · 48 · Founder, Veyra

Daniel
Bodnar

For six years, voices from older worlds have shown him what happens when civilizations receive abundance before they are ready for it. He believes the pattern because he has seen it repeat.

Bodnar does not want the future stopped, and he does not want it for himself. He wants it slowed down, kept in trusted hands. That is what makes him dangerous: Maia is fighting a man convinced that saving the world means deciding when everyone else is ready.

“I’ve never once wanted it stopped. I want it slower.”

Helena · five

Somebody offered them
a special house.

The biggest idea in this film comes from a five-year-old taking her breakfast apart.

The people around them

Nobody in this film is only one thing.

Helena at the breakfast table, her food taken apart.

Helena Cavalcanti

Five

Takes things apart to understand how they work. Maia eventually realizes she should have been paying closer attention.

Kenji Watanabe in the orbital systems room.

Kenji Watanabe

Orbital systems

If Maia is the one who listens to the planet, Kenji is the one who listens beyond it, and the first to hear who the Earth has been talking to.

Nakamura in his lab.

Nakamura

Luna’s builder

Built the first true AGI. Of everyone at Aurora, he is the one who watches Luna most closely.

Gabriel Arantes with Maia at Aurora.

Gabriel Arantes

Director of the Institute

Built Aurora and will do almost anything to keep it alive. Eventually, he has to decide what that is worth.

Esther Friedman in a television studio.

The pessimist

The world’s most famous AI skeptic. She has spent years warning what happens when intelligence outruns control.

Rafa Orion in front of a wall of screens.

Rafa Orion

Founder, Orbita Vector

A brilliant, irreverent space entrepreneur who moves faster than everyone else.

Sofia Mendes in the media room.

Sofia Mendes

Public trust

She knows telling the truth is only half the job. On the worst night, she has seven hundred calls to make. She is on the third.

Helena holds a small glowing Earth in her cupped hands while Maia watches.

The gift

The Common Fire.

Clean energy without limit. Shared, it ends scarcity within a generation. Held whole, it is the last weapon anyone would ever need.

How do you give everyone something this powerful without allowing anyone to own it?

Maia walks Helena to school on a São Paulo street. A morning in the Cavalcanti apartment in Perdizes.

The place

A global story,
told from São Paulo.

NOVA begins small: Maia at her kitchen table in Perdizes, the Aurora Institute working through the night, a child waiting at a school gate. Then the frame keeps widening. What begins in one room becomes a story about humanity’s place in something much larger.

As the consequences spread, the film moves through Noord-Holland, London, Brasília and places across the world. But every expansion in scale keeps returning to São Paulo, to hospitals, corridors, traffic, kitchens and family rooms.

The world of NOVA keeps getting larger. Maia’s remains recognizably human.

Why now

The third story about intelligence.

The other AI story

Most stories about AI ask whether the machine will turn on us, save us, or replace us. NOVA asks what happens when it turns its attention somewhere else, hears something we never could, and brings us into the conversation.

Ownership changes everything

The discovery is not only about what becomes possible. It is about who gets to control what everyone needs.

The question is already here

Artificial intelligence has moved from science fiction into ordinary life. NOVA enters that moment from an unexpected direction. Its breakthrough comes not from magic, but from data we already collect, interpreted at a scale no human mind could hold at once.

The project

A finished screenplay.
A world already imagined.
